He started gaining international prominence in 2012 when he was cast in the American ABC military drama series ‘Last Resort’ in which he essayed the role of James King. Lissing has also featured in the main role of Jack Thornton in the Hallmark channel show ‘Home and Away’ as well as the channel’s TV film ‘A December Bride’ in which he appeared as Seth Murphy.

Lissing made his acting debut in 2001 appearing in as a cop in the Australian TV series ‘Pizza’. He later appeared in several episodic roles on Australian television and short films. His early credits include television shows like ‘Packed to the Rafters’, ‘Underbelly: A Tale of Two Cities’ and ‘Cops L.A.C.’ He also appeared in several short films in his home country but received acclaim for his work in full length feature films ‘The Cure’ and ‘John Doe: Vigilante’.

Early Life and Education

Lissing was born on 4 October 1981, in Sydney, Australia as the only son of his parents, mother Inge Christophers who serves with the non-profit organization Feros Care that is dedicated to the service of older people and father Jerry Lissing who is the owner of Navy Canteens at Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia. Lissing has one sibling, a younger sister Tam, who is married and has a son named Charlie. Lissing claims to have spent most of his childhood on the sandy beaches of Sydney, Australia.

Not much is known about Lissing’s early life. He completed his primary secondary and high School education from schools in Sydney and started an acting career in Australia before he started receiving offers to appear in American TV shows, which is when he moved to America

Career Rise

Lissing started his acting career in Australia in 2001 marking his debut in an episode of the Australian TV series ‘Pizza’. His first known role was in the popular Australian soap opera ‘Home and Away’ in which he essayed the role of firefighter Dave Elders. Lissing appeared in a few short films like ‘Whiteline’, ‘Multiple Choice’, and ‘The Game’ between 2009-2010. In 2011, he was cast in ‘Crownies’, another Australian series, in which he was cast as Conrad De Groot opposite actress Indiana Evans and was part of the series until it went off air. He also appeared in two more short films, ‘Fidelity’ and ‘Entwined’, playing the role of Aiden in the latter, which received great critical acclaim. He also appeared in shows like ‘Out of the Blue’, ‘Packed to the Rafters’ ‘Cops L.A.C.’ etc.

 

Lissing moved to USA when he was cast as US. Navy Officer James petty in the 2012 American series ‘Last Resort’ which contributed to his rise in prominence. The series featured seasoned actors like Andre Braugher and Scott Speedman. He was cast as the ambitious researcher Ryan Earl in the 2012 film ‘The Cure’. He appeared as Seth in the 2016 Hallmark TV film ‘A December Bride’ alongside Jessica Lowndes.

In 2014, Lissing started starring as Jack Thornton, a Canadian Mountie in the Hallmark Channel show ‘When Calls the Heart’ for 5 seasons  till April 2018, after which his character was killed.

After leaving ‘When Calls the Heart’,  Lissing joined Brook D’Orsay for Hallmark Channel’s movie ‘Christmas in Love’

Much like his early life, Lissing has not revealed any information about his personal life and believes in letting his work speak for him. Lissing was speculated to be dating Erin Krakow, his co-star in ‘When Calls the Heart’. However, both parties denied the rumours of their relationship and maintained that they were just good friends.

Erin Krakow and Daniel Lissing share an incredible chemistry off-screen as they do on-screen from the pictures that one can see on their Instagram profiles.  Lissing calls Krakow his special friend and even hinted that he would celebrate Christmas 2018 with someone special.  Incidentally, Erin is just 3 years younger than Lissing.
