William George “Bill” Hemmer is a reputed American journalist who is best known for his work at the Fox News Channel with its base in New York City. Hemmer also served as a reporter for CNN, serving at the network for 10 years during which he was felicitated with an Emmy Award. Hemmer has been working with the Fox News Channel since 2005 and currently serves as the co-anchor of the show ‘America’s Newsroom’ along with Shannon Bream in the 9am to 11am ET spot.
Hemmer started a career in the mid 1980’s in the field of broadcasting after being hired by WLWT-TV as a sports producer. He also served at WLWT-TV until he was hired as a weekend sports anchor by WCPO-TV, a CBS affiliate. Hemmer took a hiatus for two years to travel the world and started “Bill’s Excellent Adventure” that featured several stories of his travels across the world, which he submitted to CBS’s local affiliates, winning his two regional Emmy awards. Upon returning to USA, Hemmer worked at WCPO until he was offered a position at CNN’s international headquarters in the city of Atlanta, Georgia.

Early Life and Education
Hemmer was born on 14 November 1964 in Cincinnati, Ohio to former high school teacher, Georganne M. Knittle and Serta Mattresses salesman William R. Hemmer. Hemmer has 4 siblings and is the second child of his parents. He is of English ethnicity and was raised as a Roman Catholic.
Hemmer studied at the Catholic parochial school Our Lady of Victory (Cincinnati) and later graduated from Elder High School, Cincinnati where he developed a passion in broadcasting. He attended Miami University, Oxford, Ohio from where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast Journalism. He was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity and spent some time studying at Miami University Dolibois European Center which was located in Luxembourg City, Luxembourg then.
Career Rise
Hemmer rose to prominence after he started his career at CNN in 2005 where he hosted several programs that included ‘American Morning’, ‘CNN Early Edition’, ‘CNN Tonight’, ‘CNN Morning News’, as well as ‘CNN Live Today’ with Daryn Kagan as his co-anchor. Hemmer covered the Atlanta bombing during the 1996 Olympics held in the city, for which he received an Emmy Award. He was one of the live, ground reporters from the World Trade Center, during the September 11, 2001 attacks and also reported live from Khandahar, Afghanistan in 2001 in the early period of the War on Terror. Other work at CNN includes the coverage of execution of Timothy McVeigh who was put to death for bombing Oklahoma City, the coverage of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003 and the live coverage on Pope John Paul II’s death in Vatican City in 2005.
In August 2005, Hemmer joined Fox News, serving both in the studio and on the field. He reported on the Hurricane Katrina aftermath, The Iraq War and even interviewed the Democratic nominee for the 2008 presidential election, Barack Obama. Hemmer also covered Pope Benedict XVI’s visit to USA in 2008 extensively, as well as the Haiti earthquake. He also travelled to Baghdad, Iraq in the aftermath of the Iraq War. He also played a significant role of monitoring Fox News Channel’s “Bill Board” on the night of the 2012 Presidential elections. Hemmer currently serves as the co-anchor of the show ‘America’s Newsroom’ that airs from 9 and 11 a.m. ET.

Hemmer is reportedly in a relationship with actress/model Dara Tomanovich who has been his girlfriend for many years.
Hemmer is a champion of Senior Citizens and associated himself with various such causes including chairing the Arthritis walk for the Ohio River Valley chapter. He has also shown his support to Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America.
