Katherine Elizabeth “Kate” Upton is a famous American model and actress who gained nationwide recognition after she appeared in the Swimsuit Issue of the Sports Illustrated Magazine in 2011, when she was named the magazine’s ‘Rookie of the Year’. She also graced the cover of the magazine’s issues in 2012, 2013 and 2017. Early Life and Education
Upton was born on 10 June 1992 in the city of St. Joseph, Michigan as one of the three children of former Texas tennis champion Shelley Davis and high school athletics director Jeff Upton. Upton has three siblings, sisters named Laura Upton and Christie Williams and a brother named David. She is the great grand-daughter of Whirlpool Corporation co-founder Frederick Upton.
Upton was raised in Melbourne, Florida where she attended the Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy. A young equestrian, Upton competed at several national level riding championships and won four American Paint Horse Association (APHA) Championships including 13 and Under Horsemanship, 13 and Under Western Riding, 13 and Under Reserve All-Around Champion and the 14–18 Western Riding. She was placed in the third position in the APHA youth Top Twenty.
Career Rise
Upton began her modelling career in 2008, at the age of 16 after being signed on by Elite Model Management. She was then signed on by IMG Models for which she shifted her base to New York City. Upton’s first high-profile modelling assignments were for the clothing brand Garage and the fashion accessories brand Dooney & Bourke. In 2010, Upton was named the face of Guess and in 2011, she appeared in the body paint section of the Swimsuit Issue of Sports Illustrated being named the magazine’s ‘Rookie of the Year’. Upton began dating Major League baseball player and Houston Astros pitcher Justin Verlander in late 2011 and got engaged to him in 2016. In 2014, during the iCloud leaks of celebrity photos. several provocative pictures of Upton with Verlander were leaked on the internet.
A devout Christian, Upton has a tattoo of the holy cross on the inside of her finger as a way of having “a cross with me, at all times”.
