Safra Ada Catz or more precisely Safra Catz is a famous business executive based in America. She is currently serving as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of IT giant Oracle Corporation along with Mark Hurd after Larry Ellison stepped down from the post. Prior to this designation, she has served the company at various positions. She joined the company as executive in 1999. Later she was included as one of the board members in 2001. Early life and Background
Safra was born on December 1, 1961 in Jewish family based in Holon, Israel. When she was just 6 years old, her family shifted from Israel and settled in Brookline, Massachusetts. Catz enrolled in Brookline High School and completed her school education. Thereafter, she joined Wharton School under University of Pennsylvania and earned her bachelors’ degree in 1983. Safra acquired a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in the year 1986. She completed her final year of the curriculum from Harvard Law School.
Career
Safra Catz started her career as a banker in the year 1986 with the US investment bank Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette. She served the financial institution at various positions. She became the Senior Vice President in January 1994 and served the position till February 1997. Thereafter, in the same year she became the Managing Director and carried out the responsibility till March 1999.
In April 1999, Safra Catz got the chance to join Oracle as an executive. Owing to her talent she was soon included as one of board members in October 2001. She was also chosen to hold the position of President in the year 2004. Apart from this, she has been associated as a Non Executive Director of Hyperion Solutions Corp since 14th April 2007. She has also been a part of Executive Council of TechNet since 14th March 2013. She has also taken up the responsibility of Director of Stellent Inc since 12th December 2006 and PeopleSoft Inc since 30th December 2004.
Safra Catz is also given the credit of the Oracle’s acquisition of its rival company PeopleSoft for $10.3 billion in 2005. She became the CFO of the company and served the position temporarily from November 2005 to September 2008. She was once again chosen for the same post in April 2011 which she is serving till date.
In the year 2010, Catz was joined by Mark Hurd as the Co-President of the company. On 18th September 2014, it was announced that Safra will become the CEO of the company along with Mark Hurd after Larry Ellison stepped down from the post. On 20th May 2014, Catz announced the expansion plans of Oracle Corporation in Romania. She took up the task of choosing the location of the office outside Bucharest after the employee count reached 3000 in the capital city. In addition to this, Catz is serving as a lecturer of accounting at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. She is also holding the position of director of HSBC group since May 2008.
In 2009 Safra Catz was placed in 9th position in the Fortune’s list of 12th most powerful woman in business. In the same year Forbes placed her as the 16th most powerful business-woman. As per the report published by Fortune in 2011, she was the highest earning women among all Fortune 1000 companies.
