Mike Pompeo is an American Republican politician and businessman. He became the US Secretary of State on March 31, 2018 after spending one year as the director of CIA.
Mike was elected to the United States House of Representatives for four consecutive terms, beginning 2011. He took over as the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency on Jan 23, 2017.
Mike has formerly been a member of the Republican National committee from the state of Kansas. He was also actively involved in the Tea Party reform movement which played a major role in the policies of the Republican Party. During his term in the US Congress, he was a part of the Italian American Congressional Delegation.
On March 13, 2018, President Trump made the announcement that he had selected Pompeo to be the next US Secretary of State after the retirement of Rex Tillerson, the current United States SOS, on March 31, 2018.
Early Life and Education
Mike Pompeo (Michael Richard Pompeo) was born to Dorothy and Wayne Pompeo on 30th December, 1963, in Orange, CA.
He did his schooling at Fountain Valley, California’s Los Amigos High School. He was a power forward in the basketball team at the school. He later enrolled at the United States Military Academy located at West Point and eventually graduated in 1986, with a major in mechanical engineering.
Pompeo later attended Harvard Law School and in 1994 graduated with a Juris Doctor/JD. During his time at the university, he was on the board of editors for Harvard Law Review.

Career
After graduating from the United States Military Academy, Mike joined the US Army. Initially, he was officer in the Armor Branch Cavalry. He gradually climbed up the ranks to become a Captain. He served as part of the US forces during the Gulf War. He was a patrolling officer in Germany before the fall of the Berlin Wall. Mike completed his US Army service in 1991.
After getting his law degree from Harvard, Pompeo began working for Williams & Connolly as a lawyer. In 1998, he moved to Wichita and launched the company ‘Thayer Aerospace’ in partnership with three college friends. In 2006, he sold his holding in the firm to Highland Capital Management. After his appointment as CIA director in 2017, he selected his partner to become the COO of the company.
Mike contested the 2010 Republican primaries for the 4th District Congressional seat in Kansas State. He won the primaries and then defeated Democratic nominee Raj Goyle to win the seat. Mike would get re-elected to US Congress from this seat in 2012, 2014, and 2016. As a member of the US Congress, Pompeo was a part of several committees, including those on energy, intelligence, and Benghazi.
After being nominated by President-elect Trump as CIA director, Mike was confirmed by the senate to the post on Jan 23, 2017.
