Alexa Davalos – The ‘Woman’ in the High Castle!




Alexa Davalos Dunas, professionally known as Alexa Davalos is a Parisian born American film and television actress best known for her work on the Warner Brothers network series ‘Angel’ (2002-03) in which she portrayed the character of Gwen Raiden in the show’s fourth season. She is also known for her work in the show ‘Reunion’ in which she essayed the role of Samantha Carlton. Davalos has since made appearances in single episodes of various show.

Davalos started her career as a model and soon moved to acting. She made her silver screen debut in 2002 with an uncredited role in the film ‘Coastlines’. She gained critical and commercial success for her work in the 2004 film ‘The Chronicles of Riddick’ in which she played the role of Kyra. She has since appeared in films like ‘The Mist’, ‘Feast of Love’, ‘Defiance’ and Clash of the Titans. Since 2015, Davalos has been starring in the lead role on ‘The Man in the High Castle’, an Amazon Studios series.

Early Life and Education

Davalos was born on 28 May 1982, in Paris, France as the only child of American parents, photographer Jeff Dunas and his wife, actress Elyssa Davalos. She is the granddaughter of actor Richard Davalos. Davalos was raised in France and Italy until her parents moved back to their birth country, USA and settled in New York. Davalos has Spanish and Finnish ancestry on her mother’s side of the family and Ashkenazi Jewish, Russian and Lithuanian ancestry on her father’s side. When she was 8 years old, Davalos’ parents divorced.

Davalos claims to be raised “without much religion” but for a brief period, attended the Hebrew School. She moved to New York City at age 17 on her own and started a career in modelling for photographer Peter Lindbergh among others. She discovered her passion for acting and enrolled into New York’s Off-Broadway Flea Theater.

Career Rise

Davalos’ first big role was in ‘The Ghost of F. Scott Fitzgerald’, a short film that was screened at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2002. Davalos gained prominence for her work in the 2002-03 Warner Brothers Series ‘Angel’, which was a spin-off of the popular show ‘Buffy The Vampire Slayer’. Davalos appeared in the fourth season of the series, essaying the role of mutant Gwen Raiden. She also appeared in ‘And Starring Pancho Villa as Himself’, an HBO film opposite Antonio Banderas.

Davalos made her silver screen debut in a starring role in the 2004 film cult film ‘The Chronicles of Riddick’ in which she played the role of Kyra. She appeared as Samantha Carlton in the 2006-07 Fox series ‘Reunion’. Some of Davalos’ other roles include the films ‘The Mist’,  ‘The Feast of Love’, ‘Defiance’ and the immensely successful ‘The Clash of the Titans’. Her television roles include the television film ‘Surrender, Dorothy’ in which she played Diane Keaton’s daughter, ‘Raines’ and ‘Mob City’. Since 2015, Davalos has been portraying the lead role of Juliana Crain in ‘The Man in the High Castle’ which is an Amazon Studios series.

Personal Life

Davalos was involved in a romantic relationship with actor Josh Lucas from 2006-2008. Soon after the couple parted ways, Davalos adopted a more private approach to her personal life. Although rumoured to have a boyfriend, Davalos claims that she has made a conscious choice never to speak about her private life to the media.

Davalos served as a bridesmaid at actress Amanda Righetti’s wedding owing to their close friendship. In her own words, she is a “dork” and loves travelling and reading.
