Claire Foy – The Crowning Glory

Claire Elizabeth Foy is a famous English actress. Foy made her acting debut appearing in the pilot episode of the BBC Three series ‘Being Human’ in 2008, when she also appeared in another BBC show ‘Doctors’. She gained prominence for her work in the BBC mini-series ‘Little Dorrit’, in which played the titular role of Amy Dorrit. Foy appeared in main roles in television shows like ‘Upstairs Downstairs’, ‘The Promise’, ‘White Heat’ and ‘Crossbones’. She received critical acclaim for her work in BBC2’s mini-series Wolf Hall in which she portrayed Anne Boleyn which earned her BAFTA nominations.

Foy gained international recognition in 2016 when she started appearing in the lead role in the Netflix acclaimed series ‘The Crown’ in which she portrays a young Queen Elizabeth II. Early Life and Education

Foy was born on 16 April 1984 in Stockport, Greater Manchester as the youngest child of her mother Caroline and father David Foy and raised in Manchester and Leeds and Longwick, Buckinghamshire. Her father serves as a sales consultant while her mother is a pharmaceutical company employee. Foy has 2 siblings; a brother named Robert and a sister named Gemma and has Irish ancestry on her mother’s side of the family. When Foy was eight years old, her parents separated.

Foy studied at a girls’ grammar school, The Aylesbury High School. She later attended Liverpool John Moores University where she did learnt drama and screen studies. Foy also enrolled in the Oxford School of Drama from where she completed a year-long course and graduated in 2007.

Career Rise

As a student of the Oxford School of Drama, Foy made her acting debut in plays such as ‘Watership Down’, ‘Top Girls’, ‘Touched’ and ‘Easy Virtue’. She made her television debut in the pilot episode of the BBC Three series ‘Being Human’ in 2008 and later debuted on stage professionally with DNA and The Miracle directed by Paul Miller and staged at the Royal National Theatre, London. Foy gained prominence for starring in the titular role of Amy Dorrit in the BBC mini-series ‘Little Dorrit’, based on the novel of the same name by Charles Dickens which earned her a Royal Television Society nomination.

Foy met actor Stephen Campbell Moore while working together in the 2011 film ‘The Season of the Witch’. The couple dated for three years and announced their marriage in 2014. Foy and Moore announced the birth of their child, a daughter in March 2015.

Foy was two months pregnant while shooting for the mini-series ‘Wolf Hall’ and took a brief sabbatical after the birth of her daughter. She returned on sets and started shooting for ‘The Crown’ when her daughter was just four months old.
