Maria Sara Bartiromo is a renowned American journalist, news anchor magazine columnist and an acclaimed author who is best known for her work at the Fox Network where she serves as the host of her morning news show ‘Mornings with Maria’ that airs on the Fox Business Network. She also anchors the weekend news show ‘Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo’ on Fox News Channel. Addittionally, Bartiromo also holds the position of being Fox Business Network’s Global Market editor and is seen also hosting segment on the Business Global Power Players on Fox.

Bartiromo began her journalism career in the capacity of an intern at CNN where she served until she was offered a position at the CNBC network. At CNBC, Bartiromo served as the anchor of the program ‘Closing Bell’ while also hosting her show ‘On the Money with Maria Bartiromo’. Bartiromo holds the distinction of being the first business news reporter in history to make a live broadcast from the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. In November 2013, Bartiromo moved to Fox Network after serving with CNBC for 20 years. She has been felicitated with several journalism awards.

Early Life and Education

Bartiromo was born on 11 September 1967 in Brooklyn, New York, USA as the daughter of Italian-American parents, Italian Restaurant Rex Manor owner Vincent Bartiromo and his homemaker wife Josephine. She is the youngest of the three children born to her parents and was raised in the Dyker Heights section of South Brooklyn. Bortiromo’s early aspirations were to be a nurse, a pharmacist and an interior decorator but being passionate about journalism after stumbling into it accidentally.

Bartiromo attended the Fontbonne Hall Academy, an all-girls Catholic school located in Dyker Heights, South Brooklyn from where she graduated and later enrolled into New York University. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from NYU with majors in Economics and Journalism.

Career Rise

Bartiramo embarked upon a career in journalism in 1998 when she was hired by CNN as an off-camera intern. She served in several positions at CNN for five years and in 1993, moved to CNBC upon being offered a position by CNBC President Roger Ailes. Bartiromo made her broadcast debut as an analyst in 1995 replacing Roy Blumberg and started reporting live from the New York Stock Exchange floor and became the first journalist to ever report live from NYSE for which she gained nationwide prominence.

In the 1990’s Bartiromo started serving as a regular contributor on segments of the shows ‘Squawk Box’ and ‘Market Watch’. She also served as an anchor of the CNBC flagship program ‘Business Center’ with Tyler Mathisen. She was later named the original host of CNBC news program ‘Closing Bell’, discussing the NYSE trading session end. Bartiromo started hosting ‘The Wall Street Journal Report’ in 2004 after replacing Consuelo Mack. Bartiromo has been honoured with 2 Emmy Awards in the categories ‘Outstanding Coverage of a Breaking News Story’ and ‘Outstanding Business and Economic Reporting’. Her other television appearances include shows like ‘Late Night with Conan O’Brien’ and ‘The Tonight Show with Jay Leno’ on NBC Universal, ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’ and ‘Real Time with Bill Maher’ on CBS, ‘The Caroline Rhea Show’, ‘The Colbert Report’ and ‘McEnroe’ on Warner Bros. Television. She also guest-hosted ‘ Live with Regis and Kelly’.

Personal Life

Bartiramo dated Wisdom Tree Investments Chief Executive officer Jonathan Steinberg for several years until they announced their marriage in 1999. Steinberg is the son of Saul Steinberg, a New York financier. Bartiramo and Steinberg do not have any children.

 

Bartiramo is the author of three New York best-selling books entitled ‘Use the News: How to Separate the Noise from the Investment Nuggets and Make Money in Any Economy’, ‘The 10 Laws of Enduring Success’, and ‘The Weekend That Changed Wall Street’.
