Siddharth Roy Kapur – family

His mother is Salome Roy Kapur, a former Miss India. His father is based in Punjab.   Sidddharth has two younger brothers, Kunaal Roy Kapoor (actor and director), Aditya Roy Kapur (a lead actor who became popular after the success of Aashiqui 2)

Siddharth Roy Kapur’s rise in UTV (from an intern to CEO)

His first job was in UTV, where he applied as an intern in the company owned by Ronnie Screwvala, in the year 1994. He was paid Rs. 2000 per month for his role as a fresher. He began to learn the ropes and take an active interest in the growth of the company along with the CEO Ronnie Screwvala. After that, he took a break and pursued MBA.

Siddharth left UTV to work with Procter & Gamble and then Star TV in Hong Kong, where he became one of their youngest VPs. Ronnie Screwala then called him and asked if he was interesting in joining UTV back and heading their movie business. Siddharth jumped at the opportunity and started spearheading the marketing of movies like Rang De Basanti and Khosla Ka Ghosla paving the road for off-beat but commercially successful films.

Siddharth also played a pivoting role in the growth of Hungama TV capturing the children’s market which was earlier dominated by the likes of Disney Channel, Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon.

Siddharth soon began to assume the role of distribution and revenue allocation for UTV Motion Pictures along with marketing. His work earned him recognition and in 2008, he was made the CEO of UTV Motion Pictures, responsible for the creative, structuring, development, production, marketing, promotion, syndication and distribution. With his leadership, UTV Motion Pictures began to position itself as one of the most trusted names in Indian movie making business with quality movies like Jodhaa Akbar, A Wednesday!, Fashion, Peepli Live, Dev D, Raajneeti, Kaminey, Delhi Belly, No One Killed Jessica, Paan Singh Tomar and Barfi. In his leadership, four UTV productions in six years turned to be India’s official entry to Academy Awards, besides winning many others awards.

After Walt Disney India acquired UTV, Siddharth became the MD (Managing Director). Barfi was the first movie of Disney UTV Productions, followed by other movies like Heroine, ABCD, Shahid, Kai Po Che, Chennai Express, 2 States and Haider.

Siddharth Roy Kapur – wife

He is a two-time divorcee and actress Vidya Balan is his third wife. The couple married at a private ceremony on December 14, 2012.

Ex-wives

Siddharth Roy married young to his childhood sweetheart known as Aarti Bajaj, she was media-shy and was not known to associate with the entertainment industry. After the divorce,  he went to marry TV producer Kavita but even this marriage did not work and the couple separated.  Love bloomed much later in the favor of the Bollywood star Vidya Balan who seemed to have a lot of commonalities with him.
