Novak Djokovic – The Ace Tennis Hero




Novak Djokovic was born on May 22, 1987 in Belgrade in Yugoslavia to his father Srdan and mother Dijana. Both his parents owned a tennis academy and a chain of three restaurants. Djokovic‘s father was a former tennis player and an ace skier as were his uncle and aunt. Novak has two younger brothers, Đorđe and Marko. He is fluent in English, German, Italian and Serbian language.  Djokovic is the legendary tennis player who is recently ranked world no.1 by the Association of Tennis Professionals. He has won eight Grand Slam singles and is considered to be one of the greatest tennis players in the history of the world.

Djokovic was a prodigy since childhood. He started playing tennis from the age of four and by the time he was thirteen he was sent to Germany for professional training. His persistence, grit and determination paid off when he won the Australian Open in 2008 and in 2010 led the Serbian National team to the first Davis Cup in the year 2010 and won the match. The winning streak continued as Djokovic claimed three to four Grand Slams and compiled a 43– match streak in 2010-11, which is also the second longest streaks since 1980 (just behind John McEnroe (42-0) in 1984. Also, the first best feat ever in Open Era for Men’s Singles, this achievement propelled Novak Djokovic to the World Ranking 1 position.

When Djokovic was fourteen, he won the European Championship in singles, doubles and the team competition as well. At the World Junior Championship he had won the silver medal for Yugoslavia. Later he was ranked the 40th best junior tennis players in the world, at the age of 16. Djokovic won his first ATP Challenger tournament in Budapest in the year 2004, where he started as a qualifier. The very next year he moved up to the Top 100 ranking order after he had qualified in the Wimbledon.

Djokovic played the semifinals of the French Open and Wimbledon in the year 2007. His glory touched the pinnacle when he defeated the three Goliaths of the game, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Andy Rddick and won his second masters Title in Montreal. This historic win made him the world No. 3.He then participated in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where he represented Serbia and won the Bronze Medal for his country, in men’s singles.

In the year 2010 the Serbian National Team, for the first time in history won the Davis Cup Trophy. It was sure a glorious moment for the country. That very year the 1.88 meter tall  (6 feet 2 inch) Novak Djokovic won the Australian Open, the U.S. Open and the Wimbledon and established himself as the world’s best tennis player by securing the first place. Another feather in the cap was added for Djokovic, when he won the epic match in a straight five-set win against the seven-time champion Roger Federer and thus won his seventh Grand Slam Title.

Since 2005, Djokovic had been dating his girlfriend Jelena Ristic. On September 2013, the couple got engaged and a year later, on July 10, 2014; they were married. Their son Stefan was born on October 21, 2014.
