Lowell C. McAdam is the Chief executive Officer and Chairman of Verizon Communications which is a leading service provider of fiber-optic, wireless and global internet networks and services. Verizon communication announced in July 2016 about its plans to acquire Yahoo for estimated $4.83 billion.
Lowell used to work as the COO and president of the company before getting the position of the CEO and Chairman. He handled the responsibilities of the CIO functions, internal services and the technology management.
Early life and background
Lowell McAdam was born on 28th may, in the year 1954, in Buffalo, New York.
After receiving his high school education Lowell enrolled in Cornell University and earned his engineering degree. After that he completed his MBA from the University of San Diego.
After completing his MBA, Lowell joined the U.S Navy’s Civil Engineer Corps. He worked there for six consecutive years.
After retiring from the Navy, Lowell worked as the president of international operations for AirTouch Communications. He also worked as the lead technical partner for Cellular ventures in Portugal, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Japan and Korea.
From 1983 to 1993, Lowell held several executive positions with Pacific Bell. He joined the AirTouch communication to work as an executive director of international operations and applications in 1993. He also worked as the General Manager of south bay customer services and the area vice president of Bay Area Marketing.
Lowell is working as the CEO of the Verizon Communications Inc since August 2011 and he became the chairman in 2012 January. He got the opportunities to work as the chairman and the CEO after serving the Company as the COO for 5 long years, since 2006.
Lowell’s huge contribution and hard work lead Verizon communication to a new phase of wireless growth. The company took over entire ownership of Verizon wireless by buying forty five percent share of Vodafone. Lowell is also monitoring the company’s push into the sectors of mobile entertainment and Internet of Things. In the last year, Verizon inaugurated Go90, an entertainment product that features impressive mobile video content. All these initiatives have been taken by Lowell McAdam and his team members.
Apart from that, McAdam is also known to be the past chairman of the Board of Directors of the reputed trade association named CTIA – The Wireless Association. He is also involved with the National Academy Foundation as the director.
Lowell also works as the Co-chair of the CEO Council in health and innovation. This company emphasizes on the adoption of innovative and effective strategies which can improve the health of the employees along with delivering cost effective and high quality healthcare. Other than that, Lowell is also a member of the board of trustees of the Cornell University.

Lowell married Susan McAdam in the year 1977. They originated the Lowell and Susan McAdam SBA Alumni Lifelong Learning program. The couple had one son named Ryan. Unfortunately, his wife passed away. After the death of Susan, Lowell never remarried.
