One Direction is one of the most popular British-Irish boy band which rose to fame after the seventh season of the X-Factor even though they secured the third position. The boy band was initially a five member piece but became a four member band after Zayn Malik left the band on March 25, 2015 due to personal reasons.

The band was initially signed to Syco Records which is Simon Cowell’s label after the X-Factor and is presently on a hiatus following their continuous touring and albums for five consecutive years. The band has released five studio albums since their formation in the five consecutive years; the first four as a five member band while the last and the latest, Made In the A.M as a four member band.

Initially just after the release of their fourth album Four, One Direction was designated as the only and the first boy band whose four consecutive albums debuted at #1 in the US Billboard top 200. Not just that, their second album, Midnight Memories was the highest grossing album in the year 2013 even when it was released at the end of the year.

Formation

The member of the band, Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan and former member Zayn Malik auditioned for the seventh season of X-Factor in the year 2010 and were rejected as solo artists. The boys were again called back and put into a group which later became the pop sensation that we know as One Direction today.

Even though they didn’t win in spite of their rising popularity, the boy band secured themselves a record deal worth 2 million pounds with Simon Cowell’s record label, Syco Records. Their first book, One Direction: Forever Young (Our Official X-Factor Story) was released by HarperCollins which later became the Sunday Times Best Seller.

Albums and Tours

One Direction released their first single What Makes You Beautiful on September, 2011 which was the most pre-ordered single in the history by the Sony Entertainment music and also reached the #1 in the charts soon after its release. Following that two other singles were released namely Gotta Be You and One Thing which broke all the records as well. The first studio album was finally released globally in the year 2012. The simultaneous tour was also announced on December, 2011 and was named as the Up All Night Tour.

The boy band has since then never stopped with their yearly albums and their consecutive tours. The second studio album Take Me Home was released on November 2012 which sold more than 500,000 copies globally just in the first week of its release. The Take Me Home Tour was announced in February, 2013.

The third album, Midnight Memories was released on November 25, 2013 following the release of their first documentary, This Is Us on July 22, 2013. They later announced their very first stadium tour, Where we are Tour on May 16, 2013. Their fourth and fifth album, Four and Made in the AM were released in 2014 and 2015 respectively. The boy band later announced their hiatus after the vigorous working and wanted to try out their solo projects.
